Through our experience as an architectural practice we have undertaken various refurbishment and recladding projects, where original buildings lacked in detail consideration. All of these buildings had a common thread of leaking issues, not as a result of “the leaking building syndrome” but due to inadequate design of critical weatherproofing areas such as flashing's, wall penetrations and the installation of such by inadequately skilled contractors. These issues can result in serious damage to a buildings structure and potentially the occupant’s health. Subsequently cladding's have needed to be removed and structural elements reinstated. This is a cost that could have been avoided if care was given to adequately detail in the initial build.
Cornthwaite Architects Ltd provide the specific amount of detailing that any project deserves to ensure that critical waterproofing details are executed appropriately so they will endure the test of time. As we say “do it once, do it right.”
